Will you be affected by the termination of Redcare's alarm signalling system?

It’s official - BT’s will be withdrawing their Redcare alarm signalling operation from 1 August 2025. As this product has long been regarded as the gold standard products by customers and insurers, this may be an alarming piece of news.

If you’re one of the 100,000 customers and businesses affected by this, you’ll have received an official notice either by email or via post.

Here’s what we know and can share on alternative solutions and providers.

Our three golden rules:

  1. Be prepared for lots of calls and emails. Every other alarm service provider, supplier, and maintenance company will see BT’s withdrawal as an opportunity to sign up new customers – and they’ll want you to be one of them – even if it may not be the most compatible system (see below for the classifications).
  2. Before you sign anything, do your research. Redcare offered specific alarm signalling support and whoever you decided to go with needs to match that and be technologically the right fit. Don’t assume because it’s either cheap or easy, it will do the job and get insured.
  3. Most importantly, seek specialist advice and guidance from your insurance broker. They’ll be able to ensure you transition to your new provider without a break in policy cover and also advise if your preferred new system is up to the insurance cover standards and regulations.

Those that are insurance approved and certified alarm transmission systems are categorised as either single path (SP) or dual path (DP) and will fall under categories 1-4 for dual path systems, with systems noted as SP3, DP2 etc.

There are already cases where Redcare’s classic alarm transmission system has been replaced by a single path category 2 (SP2) notification, which is not considered a comparable product.

In order for it to be the same level and standard as Redcare GSM system, there has to be a dual path transmission system meeting a minimum of category 3 (DP3).

And while the August 2025 cut-off date is not until next year, we recommend you act sooner rather than later as there’s likely to be a huge spike in demand closer we are to that Redcare service close-down.

Some essential extra info. We recommend you copy or make a note of the following – it’s the installation and maintenance rules that can affect your insurance, so make sure your new alarm signalling system is:

  1. Installed by a company regulated by the National Security Inspectorate (NSI) which incorporates the National Approval Council for Security Systems (NACOSS) or a company regulated by the Security Systems and Alarm Inspection Board (SSAIB).
  2. Will be maintained in full working order under an annual maintenance contract with an appropriate alarm maintenance company or installer regulated by the National Security Inspectorate (NSI) which incorporates the National Approval Council for Security Systems (NACOSS) or a company regulated by the Security Systems and Alarm Inspection Board (SSAIB). We may require evidence of the maintenance agreement in the event of a claim.
